TEDxAdelaide – Nick Palousis – Ecosystems & Economics
We have been thinking hard about the concept of ecosystem as an analogy to the business climate. It really is a powerful idea especially when put in the context of rural and traditionally regions.
Rural regions are uniquely aware of what can happen when the system falls from balance. In an agricultural sense it happens with mono-crop farming, where the lack of bio-diversity can create opportunities for predators and pathogens to run wild. In a business sense it is seen when a company leaves a one company town leaving a shelled out factory and a vacant downtown, or when the over-sized retailer moves like an invasive species.
Below is a recent TEDx talk from Adelaide Au by Nick Palousis the video begins with a description of biomimicry and in the latter part he extends the concept to economic development.
